Growing up in the late ’80s, few sci-fi movies had the impact on me that James Camerons Aliens did. As kids in Germany, we lived in military housing with long, dark basement corridor mazes. There were lots of pipes hanging from the ceiling, steam whooshing noises… we didnt just play war, we played Aliens. Jump forward many years and theres an abundance of Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs Predator titles. Some are ok, most are bad, none have been close in total immersion in the mythos of the Aliens universe. Soon we will see the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines by Gearbox Software and if you watch THIS trailer, you will see why I am thinking it will soon be ‘game over’ for Batman, Sam Flynn and the boys of Bad Company at Fortress Weasel. The guy is giddy as he shows us around how perfectly they’ve executed LV-426. You know what else? He’s a FAN. You can hear it in his voice as he quotes the film. I am a bit of a snob I guess because in my mind, few games have raised the bar in FPSs since GoldenEye and CounterStrike. Ladies and Gents THIS looks like the freakin wild west and will have the ability for close quarters battle.
