An earlier headline for this story indicated that users would be getting Crackdown 2 for free. That is factually incorrect. Users will receive the first Crackdown as part of the promotion.
Tomorrow marks the first day of August, and while some of you might be worried because that means it’s once again time to get out that checkbook and pay the rent, Xbox LIVE users have cause for celebration. As part of its Games with Gold countdown to the Xbox One, Microsoft is giving Xbox 360 users with a live account free copies of Crackdown and Dead Rising 2.
According to Major Nelson, Xbox LIVE Gold users will be able to immediately download Crackdown
for free starting tomorrow. The game will remain available for free to Xbox LIVE users until August 15th. On August 16th, those same users will be able to download Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero for free until the end of the month.
As part of the Games for Gold promotion, Microsoft will offer two free games a month to Xbox LIVE Gold users until the launch of the Xbox One sometime this fall.
