Sunday Sit Down: Free Xbox Live on Windows 10 PC raises eyebrows

By  •

This past week’s announcement at the Game Developer Conference attracted an awful lot of raised eyebrows. Microsoft, makers of the Xbox One, wanted to let a new generation of PC gamers and developers know that it was back and that it wasn’t going to stop until it built a platform that every gamer could enjoy, regardless of what Microsoft product they preferred. What Xbox head Phil Spencer laid out was bold. The full spectrum Xbox Live services are coming to Windows 10. It wasn’t until later in the week that we got the most shocking news about Xbox Live on PC though.

Microsoft, Deliver on This for Xbox Music & I’ll Stop Talking

By  •

Microsoft’s Xbox Music and Xbox Video Teams are in for the fight of their lives this year. To be clear, the company has said next to nothing about Xbox Music publicly, and the few times it has been mentioned it’s been by Microsoft executives dangling the carrot of new OneDrive streaming. It’s a rough time to be a guy like me, a guy who uses Xbox Music and still has ten months left on his subscription.

Sunday Sit-down: We’re all real Windows 10 users, right?

Technology reporting has a strange problem. No, I’m not talking about the lack of ethics in video game journalism — because that’s you know, a questionable stance already. Sunday Sit-down: Windows 10 and Xbox Gaming Essentials

Sometimes we as users get so wrapped up in success. We tend to focus with laser-like precision on the things that our favorite sports teams, companies and people do correctly that we forget they make small but crucial mistakes. Microsoft, makers of the Xbox One, hasn’t made small crucial mistakes when it comes to PC gaming. No, they’re entire legacy in PC gaming is a giant joke worthy of a Saturday Night Live parody featuring Kenan Thompson. Now, Microsoft has big gaming announcements planned for Windows 10.

Sunday Sit-down: What a Difference the Xbox One Price Makes

By  •

Price tags are a funny thing; they can ruin your day or change your entire outlook on life and success. A price tag with a number you can actually afford to pay without being destitute is a beautiful thing. A price tag with a number too high will force you into existential questions like, “Why am I working?” and “Who thought that was affordable.” The price tag of Microsoft’s Xbox One console has straddled both extremes this year. That’s sort of amazing.

Sunday Sit Down: The Game Awards rocked

By  •

My road to living room gaming was not paved with the sweet smell of fresh ink wafting from a classic copy of Nintendo Power or Game Informer. Even after I picked up an original Xbox, then the Xbox 360 a few years later, I had no wish to read a gaming magazine. I had no regular interactions with the gaming community in general. One thing I did do every year was settle in front of a television set each December to watch the Video Game Awards.

How many different versions of digital games do we need?

By  •

At some point a guy told me that digital games were the answer to our salvation. I distinctly remember someone at a pulpit preaching about how the end-times of overly complicated game shopping were near. People held their hands up and screamed “testify.” We then all broke into song. A good time was had by all

Town Square: 5 things Xbox Music on Windows Phone needs now

Xbox Music on Windows Phone should be a no brainer. Just as games on Windows Phone should have been a slam dunk.
