In what could only be interpreted as a way to stay at the top of the music subscription heap, Spotify has announced that it will allow Android and iPhone users to stream music absolutely free — with a catch.
The catch is that users won’t be able to stream music any way they choose. Instead, this free Spotify mobile streaming will only let users play content in a shuffle mode. The move mirrors offerings from rival services like Pandora.
Updates to enable the free music streaming are already available in Google Play and the iTunes App Store. Spotify does have a Windows Phone application, however it appears users won’t be able to stream content through that app.
