Microsoft says that it sold 3 million Xbox One consoles last year. You read that right.
The company announced the updated sales figures in a post on the Xbox Wire blog this morning. While the post didn’t offer much in the way of further details or a breakdown of console sales in each country, it did thank users for their continued support.
With this announcement, Microsoft has taken the lead as it races to do gather enough users to do battle with Sony’s PlayStation 4 console. Sony announced that it had sold 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles back in December.
With the holiday shopping season over, Microsoft will need to keep its eye on the details to maintain the Xbox One’s sales momentum. That includes keeping users excited about the console’s upcoming Titanfall shooter, refining the Xbox One’s rather basic interface, and convincing buyers that the Xbox One is worth its $499 price tag.
