Netflix subscribers will still have the option to stream Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, all of Ken Burns’ recent documentaries and other PBS Shows come July 1st.
Netflix and PBS shared details about their new content deal exclusively with Variety earlier today. The deal will also include a few other shows like Peg + Cat, a relatively recent hit for PBS, which relies on content deals, corporate backing and donations from viewers to stay afloat. Nova, a long-running science program will also have older seasons debut on Netflix with this new deal.
The slate of Ken Burns documentaries going forward will include The Civil War, The Central Park Five, The War, The Dust Bowl, Prohibition, The West, Baseball and Jazz. There’s no word yet if Netflix will also gain streaming rights to The Roosevelts when it premieres on PBS later this year. Netflix has offered PBS programming for a long time. That being said, there have always been a few missing PBS shows.
This new deal will guarantee that users can stream PBS’s content through Netflix beyond its original June 30th expiration date. It won’t be bringing Masterpiece, This Old House or Downton Abbey to Netflix users. For Downton Abbey, users will still need to subscribe to Amazon Prime.
Netflix is available as an app on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows Phone and Windows devices, plus the web. It costs $9.99 a month.
