It was roughly two years ago that Microsoft announced it was taking the characters and universe from the Halo first-person shooter franchise and creating new media around them. Today, Microsoft gave Xbox One, Xbox 360 and long-time Halo fans a taste of what they can expect when Halo: Nightfall, a television show starring Mike Colter, arrives.
In addition to revealing the video, Xbox Wire also shared more information about Halo: Nightfall’s plot. Colter, who also starred in Zero Dark Thirty, will play Jameson Locke. Locke isn’t a Spartan like the series’ protagonist John 117. Instead he and his team work for ONI. That’s the same shadowy intelligence agency that was featured heavily in Halo 3: ODST. Locke and his entire team will be investigating a terrorist attack on one of Earth’s outer colonies. Halo: Nightfall is being positioned as a bridge between Halo 4 and Halo 5: The Guardians, the new edition of Halo coming exclusive to the Xbox One next fall.
The video doesn’t provide a lot of details about the plot itself. However, it is easy to see that Microsoft invested properly in producing Halo: Nightfall. Past video adoptions in the Halo universe, particularly, Forward Unto Dawn, seemed to suffer in the production value department. Users who purchase Halo: The Master Chief Collection will get access to Halo: Nightfall. According to Variety, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Surface and Windows Phone users will get access to the series on November 11th too.
