National publications — and even some more entertainment specific sites — rushed to profiling Robin Williams’ characters & comedy, recalling how he made them feel in Good Morning Vietnam or how Bicentennial Man made them feel things they’d yet to feel. As Variety points out, what many don’t know is just how big of a gamer Williams was too.
Collected videos and quotes from them detail Robin Williams’ love for interactive entertainment. He was a prolific Half Life & Call of Duty fan, excited for the Xbox One, and over the moon about classic Nintendo characters. Williams was so into gaming that he named his daughter after Zelda and once remarked that she was lucky she hadn’t ended up being named Mario or Luigi.
Williams loved video games so much he also once joked that he’d be sent to a clinic saying, “I can’t imagine the graphics being any better. It will be like these characters are living in your house. I’ll have to be doing duck and cover just to get to the bathroom! For the WiiU or the PS4, at this point I haven’t seen them yet but I might have to check into the cyber wing at Betty Ford.”
Robin Williams found dead in his home on Monday. He was 63.
