New video entertainment apps for Crunchyroll, Encore Play and Movie Plex are now available on Microsoft’s Xbox One entertainment console.
Microsoft announced all three of the video-based entertainment apps earlier today on its Xbox Wire news blog. MoviePlex Play and Encore Play are video streaming applications for users with a cable subscription. New movies like Iron Man 3 are available in Encore Play and both services also sport classic television shows like the indelible classic that is Murphy Brown. Comcast Xfinity is one of the many cable subscribers that offer support for both apps.
Crunchyroll is a video streaming app too, but its free, provided you’re willing to sit through some ads. The service is more about anime cartoons than any other video service available. It sports 20,000 episodes of anime complete with subtitles. There are some live action shows splashed in there too. Crunchyroll is rolling out worldwide it seems.
Microsoft has been delivering on all cylinders when it comes to the Xbox One’s core software experience. New updates with much needed features have arrived each month. It’s track record on Xbox One apps, isn’t nearly as awe inspiring though, probably because partners create their own Xbox One apps. Both of these apps should sport Kinect 2 gesture and voice command support. Microsoft now longer requires users to have an Xbox Live subscription to use entertainment apps. Everything except Crunchyroll will require a login though.
