The New Xbox One Experience launches today

If you have an Xbox One entertainment console connected to Xbox Live, chances are there’s a major software update awaiting you the next time you power on your console. The New Xbox One Experience software update that Microsoft began teasing in June is here.

Microsoft began letting everyone upgrade to the New Xbox One Experience at 3 A.M. Eastern Standard Time this morning, according to Major Nelson.

The New Xbox One Experience is a massive upgrade for Microsoft’s entertainment console. It streamlines activities that users do often, like creating Parties and messaging friends. The update divides the Xbox One into four basic areas. Home gives users a breakdown of games and apps they frequently or recently used. Community focuses on connecting Xbox One owners with their friends and game developers. OneGuide strings together streaming Video and Live TV content into a cohesive experience. Store gives users one single place to purchase games, television shows and movies. The New Xbox One Experience also includes Xbox One Backwards Compatibility, which won’t launch until this afternoon at 3 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. This feature lets users play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One.

Microsoft says that it’ll gradually roll out the update over the next few weeks to users. Anyone with the Always Connected power mode enabled will get the software update installed when their console isn’t in use. Others that have their console sets to complete turn itself off will get prompted to download and install the update the next time they connect to Xbox Live. On November 23rd the update will become a requirement to connect to Xbox Live.
