Looking for a bit of free music to go with that long Xbox One gaming session you have planned this weekend? Have a device that runs Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system or need something to put in that Groove Music app that some people (Okay, us) are encouraging you to try out. Microsoft’s Groove Music team is offering ten of 2015’s most popular items as free downloads, no strings attached.
Christina Calio, a member of the Groove Music Team at Microsoft, revealed that the company is giving away free album downloads this morning in a post on the Windows Experience Blog. Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise, Logic’s The Incredible True Story, Jeezy’s Church In These Streets, Breaking Benjamin’s Dark Before Dawn, Alessia Cara’s Know it All, Ellie Goulding’s Delirium, Selena Gomez’s Revival, Tame Impala’s Currents, Alabama Shakes’ Sound & Color and James Bay’s Chaos and The Calm are all available in the promotion for free. She also talks about her favorite albums of the year, which is a nice touch considering that’s how the Zune Team did things when it was still a thing.
As the Windows Store only offers MP3 purchases, it’s a good idea to pick them up even if you don’t have a Windows Phone or Windows PC. Groove Music on Xbox One, iPhone and Android no longer require a music pass, letting users stream these albums to those devices even without a $9.99 membership. Microsoft says that to redeem the free albums users do need a device running Windows 10, but the company seems to be to be forgetting its own Windows Store web portal.
