‘Alan Wake’ & ‘Pac-Man’ arrive for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Don’t stash those physical copies of Alan Wake just yet. Weeks after revealing that it’d giveaway digital copies of the game to those that purchase upcoming shooter Quantum Break, Microsoft is finally making it possible to play the game on its latest console. Alan Wake is just one of three titles the company added to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program this morning.

The company quietly rolled out support for playing the game on Xbox 360 today, with Pac Man and Castlevania: Symphony of The Knight joining it in the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program. The program lets Xbox 360 owners take some of their games with them to Microsoft’s Xbox One, without paying anything extra. The company revealed the program during its briefing at E3 2015

Anyone with a physical copy of Alan Wake can place their disc into the Xbox One’s Blu-ray drive now to unlock a digital download of the Xbox One compatible version. That’s the way every game in the program works. Xbox Live will download the last cloud save from the Xbox 360 version of the game too. Alan Wake didn’t include any online multiplayer, though that’d still work if it did. The same goes for Symphony of the Knight and Pac-Man.

Owners of the digital versions of either of these games should find a download of them available in the My Games & Apps area on their console. These games can also be purchased through the Xbox Store online.

Microsoft is hoping that the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program will give it an edge over Sony’s PlayStation 4, which forces gamers into hanging on to their old console or paying extra for access to PlayStation 3 games.
