This week seems to have been a better week in music than last week. While many of the singles and albums dropped this week aren’t really in my wheelhouse, they are fairly notable. We have new singles from Mariah Carey, Nelly and The Strokes, along with new albums from Nick Cave, Buckcherry and Fatboy Slim.
Notable Singles and EPs
- Goo Goo Dolls – Rebel Beat – not nearly as strong as their previous work, but hopefully the full album will prove much better
- The Strokes – All the Time
- Nelly – Hey Porsche
- Dido – No Freedom
- Puscifer – Donkey Punch the Night – a very interesting EP from one of Maynard James Keenan’s side projects. This EP includes covers of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Accept’s Balls to the Walls, along with a few originals.
- Mariah Carey – Almost Home
Notable Albums
- Celtic Thunder – Mythology
- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Push the Sky Away – I’ve tried again and again to like Nick Cave, but I’ve never quite gotten there. Sadly, this album didn’t sway me any further.
- Buckcherry – Confessions
- Suffocation – Pinnacle of Bedlam – a fast, brutal album, but fairly boring. Each song sounds pretty much like the last.
- Marco Beltrani – A Good Day to Die Hard (soundtrack)
- Swingin Utters – Poorly Formed
- Fatboy Slim – Big Beach Bootique 5 – mostly remixes. Some of the tracks are pretty strong, but there’s a lot of stuff on here that’s not really worth the effort.
