As is now customary at the end of the month, Microsoft has announced that subscribers to its Xbox Live Gold service will get two free digital downloads during February as a part of Xbox Live Games With Gold. Unfortunately, it didn’t share any information about when the promotion will begin including titles for its now current-generation Xbox One console.
First the free games. Starting tomorrow Xbox Live Gold users can download Dead Island at absolutely no charge. Then on February 16th users will get the opportunity to download Toy Soldiers, a toy-military based Xbox Live Arcade title that needs no introduction, for free until the end of the month.
Though we’re not ones to complain about getting free things — next month’s free Games With Gold titles would have cost users $35 normally — there’s one huge omission here: the Xbox One. Microsoft announced that Games With Gold would be extended to Xbox Live Gold subscribers on the Xbox One. At the time it said that it would have more information to share about this “in the new year.” So far the company has completely kept quiet about the Xbox One-related portion of the promotion since then.
We’ve contacted Microsoft for comment and we’ll update you when we have more to share.
