Microsoft confirmed that it does have plans to allow developers to create one application and generate versions for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and the Xbox One.
Microsoft showcased the new technology during a demonstration today at its BUILD development conference. Developers will gain the ability to create a single app and submit separate versions for the Windows Phone, Windows and Xbox stores, according to The Verge.
Sadly, Xbox One users should keep their excitement contained. Microsoft says it doesn’t have immediate plans for the technology just yet.
We’re not surprised either. Technically, there’s no publicly available software development kit for the Xbox One yet. In fact, Microsoft hasn’t even said if it’ll open up app development for the Xbox One to hobbyists and enthusiasts. Today, only trusted partners are allowed to create apps on Xbox One. This ensures a quality experience. It also limits the kind of apps that area available to Xbox One owners.
Windows Phone and Windows developers will be able to submit these new hybrid apps to those platform’s stores.
