Microsoft will allow independent game developers to create games for the Xbox One without having to partner with a publisher.
That’s according to Microsoft’s Marc Whitten, Chief Product Offer for Xbox, who released a statement on the Xbox Wire company blog.
“Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox Live. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox Live. We’ll have more details on the program and the timeline at gamescom in August.”
Previous announcements on independent publishing saw Microsoft declaring that small development teams would need to partner with a third-party publisher, or Microsoft themselves, before they could publish on Xbox LIVE as a Xbox LIVE Arcade title.
The Gamescom trade show is scheduled to kick off August 21st.
