Microsoft and game developer Electronic Arts just gave sports gamers a new reason to pick up the Xbox One over Sony’s PlayStation 4 console. The two are partnering together on EA Access, a monthly subscription service that’ll let users download copies of EA’s past games, like Madden NFL 25 & FIFA 14 for just $4.99. The kicker? It’s only available on the Xbox One.
EA and Microsoft jointly announced the new subscription service yesterday, beginning the era of subscription console gaming with a short beta. EA Access itself is an app, through that app users can download past games. Additionally, EA Access users get free trials of upcoming games a week early; think this year’s Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15 and Dragon: Age Inquisition.
Today, EA Access beta participants get just four games Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4 & Peggle 2. EA has promised that more games will be added as time progresses. Of course, when users cancel their EA Access subscription, the games they downloaded with it will stop working. Users are billed for EA Access directly, through Xbox Live.
