Developer Rockstar Games is doing again it with the themed updates. After releasing mountains of new weapons, and a hipster themed update taking inspiration from Los Angeles County dwellers, the video game studio has announced the Festive Surprise, a free holiday-themed update for the GTA Online multiplayer included with every copy of Grand Theft Auto 5.
Detailed in a blog post by Rockstar today, Festive Surprise is probably the most well thought out long-running joke we’ve seen from Rockstar since Grand Theft Auto 5’s release in 2013. The update includes new holiday sweaters perfect for pretentious ugly sweater parties, homing missiles and mines to brighten up everyone’s drab Christmas Eve and for new cars to snatch up. From now until Christmas GTA Online will randomly drop extras that users can equip on their character. Those aforementioned ugly sweaters are included in these drops. So is a mask that’ll actually make other in-game characters consider the possibility that they’re being robbed by a life-size gingerbread cookie. Players who jump into the game on Christmas day should expect a special treat too. There’s also a new snowball fight mode.
Festive Surprise is rolling out to Grand Theft Auto 5 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 now for free.
