Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s subscription video game service and the gateway drug to all its upcoming exclusives, is coming to the iPhones and iPad with a new app.
Microsoft announced the new Xbox Game Pass app for iPhones and Android this morning at Gamescom 2018. Think of it as a counterpart to the Game Pass area that’s already on the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X a few weeks ago. It lets you browse the Game Pass library and begin a game download away from home. You’ll use it to mark things you want to play when you’re away from home like many do with the queue in Netflix’s app. At least, that’s how I’ve been using it.
No, it can’t stream your games from your console when you pair your phone with a controller. That’s what the Xbox on Windows app is for.
The Xbox Game Pass app for Android is already available in the Google Play Store. The iPhone version isn’t available for everyone to download yet, but there is a public beta you can sign up for here. Of course, to do anything more than just look at the Game Pass selection, you need a subscription, which costs $10 a month or $60 a year. New subscribers can buy a month-long subscription for just $2 in the Microsoft Store.
