Perhaps Microsoft wasn’t looking for a fight when it decided to reveal the Xbox One Armed Forces Special Edition controller and stereo headset. Still that’s exactly what it’s getting on a small level.

The company announced the upcoming accessories for the Xbox One earlier today on the MajorNelson blog. Aside from a new green camouflage paint job, the two accessories look and behave just like the solid black accessories that have been available for the Xbox One for some time. The Xbox One Armed Forces Special Edition controller will cost users $64.99 when it debuts later this year. The Xbox One Armed Forces Special Edition Stereo Headset will cost $89.99 when it makes its way to store shelves alongside the controller.

That much isn’t controversial. Microsoft has routinely released slightly updated new accessories at a premium. The problem here is the name. Microsoft didn’t announce any plans for proceeds from these accessories to be donated to any military charities, which makes it all the more curious that someone at Microsoft would choose to use the Armed Forces in the branding.

Microsoft is only saying that the Xbox One Armed Forces Special Edition Headset and Controller should be available at select stores sometimes this “autumn.”
