We weren’t very big fans of Halo: Spartan Assault, Vanguard Game’s more casual take on Microsoft’s venerable alien-shooting franchise, when it debuted earlier this year. We found the game’s touch controls to be a just a bit too finicky. Thankfully, we won’t have to live with our disappointment for the Windows 8 version of the game much longer. Microsoft says Halo Spartan Assault will launch on the Xbox One on December 24th.
To be fair, our experience with the game’s controls seem to have been in the minority. Most users lauded the game for its drastically different take on Halo’s combat structure. Microsoft says users who have purchased, or plan to purchase the game before December 15th will be eligible for a discount for the Xbox One version, dropping the price down to just $4.99.
Halo: Spartan Assault is already available on laptops, desktops and tablets running Windows 8 and smartphones running Windows Phone 8. Microsoft says users with an Xbox 360 should expect a version of the game for their console in January.
