An untold amount of users went to from retailer to retailer trying to find a way to get broadcast television to work on their Xbox One on launch night. Thanks to a new Xbox One Digital TV Tuner those users finally have a way to enjoy their Xbox One’s TV app without signing up for a cable subscription. Something we’re sure many more users wish they’d have had the option to purchase on launch night.
Announced earlier today, the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner is a small accessory that plugs into one of the Xbox One’s USB ports. With the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner Xbox One users can pause live television, flip through channels using the OneGuide and even stream radio.
Microsoft says that the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner is compatible with DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C broadcasts. At 24.99 euros in the UK and 29.99 in France, Italy, Germany and Spain the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner is a separate purchase on top of the Xbox One itself — it sure beats having to fork over hundreds of dollars a month for channels you probably don’t ever have the chance to watch.
At least for now, it doesn’t appear as if Xbox One users in the United States will be able to pick up a similar device for their television sets, unfortunately.
