Lara Croft’s first adventure on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will take her from the relative death trap that was a tropical island from the last game to the frigid and bear infested wilds of Russia, developer Crystal Dynamics revealed this morning.
Game Informer is featuring a twelve-page Rise of the Tomb Raider spread In its March issue, and while it’s not revealing all on its website today, there are some interesting bits of information from its cover reveal. In a conversation with Game Informer, Crystal Dynamic’s Noah Hughes highlights some of the things his team has tried to improve on for the sequel to 2013’s reboot of Tomb Raider.
Crystal Dynamics is hoping that tighter integration between the game’s different systems will help it nail a survival/action feel. Crafting weapons in the game will require that users hunt different types of animals, some of which will be easier to find than others. Hughes says that some will even require users to hunt at a specific time of day in a specific place. There’ll be more secrets to find and more reasons for users to explore Croft’s world too. Hughes also notes that they’re hoping to push the boundaries of the Xbox One and Xbox 360 with upgraded graphics, though that last bit is true of any high-profile game like Rise of the Tomb Raider.
One thing he doesn’t discuss is whether Rise of the Tomb Raider really is an Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive. At E3 2014, Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider would arrive on store shelves later this year for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Neither have said anything meaningful about how deep their partnership for the game goes.
