If you were one of the millions waiting to get your hands on new maps, new weapons and the Forge Mode creation tool for Halo 5: Guardians, your wait is now over. Microsoft’s 343 Industries released an update that contains these features and more this morning over Xbox Live.
343 Industries confirmed that the long teased Cartographer’s Gift update for Halo 5: Guardians was rolling out this morning in a post on Halo Waypoint.
There’s a refreshed, double barrow grenade launcher now being awarded to those who open their Halo 5 REQ packs looking for new weapons. Called SPNKr, there are four different variants, each with a different headlining feature. For example, my favorite version of the grenade launcher actually seeks out enemies to decimate. REQ Packs are also awarding two new Assassinations and a helmet and armor inspired by Master Chief John 117’s early equipment. There are 30 new REQ Cards to collect in all.
Battle of Noctus is a large new map for Warzone, the battle simulation that’s included in Halo 5: Guardians. Overgrowth is a new map for Arena. Big Team Battle is available on Entombed & Antifreeze, two other new maps.
The highlight of Cartographer’s Gift isn’t these maps, it’s the new Season tracking system for Arena multiplayer and Forge Mode. Forge Mode gives players tools to create whatever they want within the confines of the game’s engine. Grifball, the digital sport that’s spawned a movement, uses Forge Mode. Seasons offer improving players the chance to place higher on leaderboards and rankings with periodic resets.
All updates to Halo 5: Guardians are free. The update takes around 4GBs of additional space.
