Xbox Live Party Chat isn’t just a great way to communicate with other games, it’s essential for some games. That’s why today’s news that Xbox Live Party Chat is finally available on iOS and Android has me grinning from ear to ear. Finally, teammates can tell me how bad I am at Halo Wars 2 Terminus Firefight without me having to dig out my headset.
I joke, but this really is great news for multiplayer lovers. If you have the Xbox app installed on your iPhone or Android device, expect a free update to add Xbox Live Party Chat support sometime in the next few hours. As with the Xbox on Windows app, you can send other gamers text messages or voice chat with them to formulate strategies. Just try and keep the griefing to a minimum.
So, theoretically, you can now voice chat with your squad when you’re away from your Xbox One and use your phone as a headset replacement. Other outlets are selling it as a complete alternative to buying an Xbox One headset, but you could already get around that by using a pair of earbuds with an in-line microphone. Still, more options are always nice.
