By now you fine citizens of the Zune universe should have the process memorized. Each week we discuss movies we recommend, so that on Saturday night might be able to snuggle up with your significant other, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do this Saturday night, right? Well not quite.

Starring John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, George Segal, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson, & Tom McCarthy the movie attempts to take the ridiculous notion that in the year 2012 we’ll all be doomed. You would think that would be compelling, again not quite.

2012So let’s go down the checklist since this is a Roland Emmerich directed movie. Cool, science-fiction related plot? Check. Lots of expensive CGI effects? Definitely got those too. What it doesn’t have however is a basic story. Hey I’m all for outlandish storyboards that require me to suspend my beliefs, in impossibilities, and hatred of over the top vehicle smashups, but seriously this movie was so long, and had a plot so tangled up in the web of grandeur mixed with destruction, I thought it best to make sure it wasn’t written, by the same people who write episodes of barney & Friends.  Most of you will wonder to yourself what I have against blockbuster movies, with the large budgets and ensemble casts. Honestly I have nothing against it. However maybe the cast has something against quality acting as it’s nearly as bad as the plot.

So why am I recommending you rent a movie I already know comes about as close to classic films like “Casablanca” as does Fox News & MSNBC come to actual journalism? It’s simple really. It’s so bad it’s funny. No really it’s a comedy in disguise! This Saturday Night, check out “2012” available for rent in the Zune Video Marketplace.
