The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 haven’t been around that long, however it looks like Sony is ready to take an early bow. Citing numbers compiled by the NPD Group, Sony says that the PlayStation 4 managed to grab the top spot in terms of console sales in the United States.

Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 had managed to beat back sales of the Xbox One in a post to its PlayStation Blog this afternoon, noting that it sold more consoles than it managed with the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation One at launch.

You’d have thought Microsoft would have taken the opportunity to offer some low key statements about Xbox One sales, however you’d be wrong. Instead, the company took to its corporate blog to announce that the Xbox One and Xbox 360 managed to rack more sales than any other console ecosystem in terms of games, accessories and consoles in the United States during the month of November. It also noted that the Xbox One was only on sale for a week before the month ended, indicating that it believes the PlayStation 4 bested the Xbox One’s launch numbers because Sony simply had more time to get the console on store shelves.

Sony hasn’t announced updated PlayStation 4 sales figures since it reached 2.1 million in sales around a week ago. Microsoft announced that it had sold 2.1 million Xbox One’s just this past Wednesday.
