Microsoft is sharing more details about how users will get its Windows 10 operating system on July 29th. What it has to say could have you running to reserve a copy for your PC as soon as possible.
In a post on its Blogging Windows site this morning Microsoft revealed that July 29th release date it’d previously revealed for Windows 10 isn’t the entire story. Those who reserved their Windows 10 upgrade on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs will start getting upgrades to the operating system on July 29th, but others will get the upgrades in waves, guaranteeing that Microsoft can provide a quality upgrade experience for the millions who’ll likely want the update as soon as they can possibly get it. Upgrade ready stickers will adorn the PCs sold by stores that are Windows 10 ready, but currently running Windows 8.1. New PCs carrying the operating system natively will likely arrive around August.
Windows 10 includes a ton of entertainment focused upgrades. The Xbox Music and Xbox Video apps have been replaced with better-looking refreshed apps called simply Music and TV & Movies. A new Xbox app replaces the SmartGlass companion. Instead of being a second screen experience, Xbox on Windows 10 offers Xbox Live integration. It can record clips and capture screenshots from PC games. Plug an Xbox One controller in a Windows 10 PC and it’s instantly recognized. PC games with Xbox Live integration like Gigantic and Fable Legends are coming to the Windows Store too. Tablet Mode ensures only mouse and keyboard users get fullscreen apps and the Start Screen . Otherwise, the Start Menu is back and Windows Store apps run in windows alongside other apps.
Windows 10 is free for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade to; reserving your copy of the operating system is as simple as clicking on the Windows icon in the right side of your taskbar.
