Now, I’m not saying that I still watch Power Rangers. When Disney purchased the rights to the franchise I bailed out. Power Rangers Jungle Fury remains the most hilarious idea to ever escape a writing room and make it to television. Some years back, Saban Entertainment managed to purchase the Power Rangers franchise back from Disney. Since it worked on a Power Rangers movie ever since. Over the weekend we got a chance to finally see some live action trailer from this coming movie.
Man, I haven’t been this excited for a film since I found out about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Go ahead, judge me.
I’ve embedded the trailer above so that you too can experience its awesomeness. Power Rangers the television series focused on teenagers with attitude, but they were mostly well-mannered and dealt with such meaty social issues as feeling left out of a birthday part or feeling uncool. The Power Rangers movie is gritty it seems. We get a few scenes of bullying and some unbelievable cruelty — all things that I can still remember from high-school. Whereas the television shows tease teenagers with attitude straight out of The Cosby Show, these teenagers are 5 100+ pound bags of keen teen attitude. Add in some decent special effects, what I consider to be cool customs and some smart deviations from the original and you’ve got yourself a pretty interesting movie.
Unfortunately, Power Rangers movie won’t be out this year. It’s coming March 23rd, 2017. Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks and Bill Hader are set to play familiar roles in the movie. I won’t reveal them here in case you folks wanna save the surprise for later. For those of you that have seen it though, what do you think?
