Microsoft’s Xbox Video Store and service is no more, but if the company wants to keep offering deep discounts on movie rentals we’re fine to see it go. This week in the Windows Store users can rent Elysium for just $.99 on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows and Microsoft’s website.
Elysium stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. In the movie, those wealthy enough to afford it have moved to a picturesque space station. The poor people who couldn’t afford to move are practically left to die on a ruined Earth. Purchasing the movie costs $7.99 in high-definition. Microsoft doesn’t say how long the cheap rental will last, but anyone who pays the $.99 now gets two weeks to watch before their rental expires. From the time that users hit play they have 48 hours to enjoy the film.
Microsoft offered a similar deal for Interstellar rentals through the Windows Store a few weeks ago. It’s still unclear if these deeply discounted rentals are a replacement for Xbox Video Free Movie Weekend or not.
