Microsoft may be riding high on it’s Xbox One announcements today, but there’s also a bit of bad news in there for anyone still using the Zune Software client.
Starting in late February Zune Software users won’t be able to stream or even play any video content they purchased from the Zune Video Store, according to an email sent out to users.
“This email is to notify you that in late February, 2014, Xbox will be making an update to our video catalog. This update will allow us to more quickly and efficiently add the highest quality video content to the Xbox Video service.
As a result, beginning in late February 2014, any Xbox Video content you own as of then, will no longer be playable through the Zune PC client, Zune devices, or Windows Phone 7 devices. We apologize for any”
With MP3 purchases, music video playback and now all video playback gone from the Zune Software, it’s officially game over the digital media service that could. Microsoft does note that users will still be able to play their videos — provided that they have a device running Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 or use a yet to be announced online video system.
