Sure, the most talked-about game in Microsoft’s E3 2016 line-up will likely be Gears of War 4. With much respect, I’m not that big a fan of the franchise. What’ll get my heart thumping is when Microsoft talks more about Halo Wars 2. The company has to have something new to share about the game; it’s already confirmed that Halo Wars 2 will be playable on the show floor.

Confirmation of Halo Wars 2’s presence at E3 2016 came recently from a post on the Halo Waypoint, the online community for everything related to the franchise. Speaking about the recent Hog Wild update for Halo 5: Guardians, the studio says that Halo Wars 2 will be available for users to try for themselves. That’s big news. First, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is one of the biggest shows of the year for games. Second, we’ve seen almost nothing related to Halo Wars 2 since the game was announced. Halo Wars 2 isn’t a first-person shooter, but a real-time strategy game. The first game in the series let players command legions of Spartans against Covenant forces. It didn’t break sales records or anything, but it won a loyal following.

“Halo Wars 2 team is anxiously gearing up for E3, where the game will indeed be playable.”

I never got the chance to play the first one, but you can bet I’ll have my face glued to my television set to see what this new one is all about. I’ve recently started to dabble in real-time strategy games while trying to relive the magic that was Star Trek Armada 2. The game launches sometime this fall on Xbox One and Windows PCs.

Microsoft’s E3 2016 Xbox Media Briefing is on June 13th. You’ll be able to watch from your Xbox or Windows PC.
